The ground-breaking ceremony for ‘Rongxiang Xu Bioscience Innovation Center’, co-established by United States Department of Commerce, National Rongxiang Xu Foundation and Cal State LA was successfully held on 18th Nov. 2016. Hundreds of guests including Kevin Xu, Board Chairman of MEBO International, Li Li, Chairman of National Rongxiang Xu Foundation, William Covino, President of Cal State LA, CEO Jose Gomez, several congressmen and community leaders participated in this event.

Kevin Xu said that to encourage young people to start a business, not only should we help them possessing the necessary qualities for innovation, more importantly, platforms for innovation should also be provided for them. Currently, large biotechnology enterprise incubators have already been established in northern California and eastern U.S., while Rongxiang Xu Bioscience Innovation Center is the first government-led biotech enterprise incubator in southern California. It is hoped that this innovation center could effectively enhance the link between theory and application of biotechnology, help cultivating more young entrepreneurs in biotechnological industry so as to drive the social development and advance the cognition of human towards life values.

William Covino, President of Cal State LA, said that the biotechnological industry plays a key role in promoting the regional development and the establishment of Rongxiang Xu Bioscience Innovation Center will help more youth in developing more scientific technologies which will eventually lead to the emergence of more innovative enterprises, bringing more jobs for local people. Mr. Covino also announced at the ceremony that the University has just received a grant of 500,000 dollars from the Department of Commerce to support the development of biotech enterprise incubators in LA.

Other guests attending the ground-breaking ceremony include congressmen Judy May Chu, Ted Lieu and Lucille Roybal-Allard, California State Treasurer John Chiang, House Representatives Philip Chen and Jimmy Gomez, Former Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina, Counselor for Science and Technology Affairs of the Consulate General of The People’s Republic of China in Los Angeles Lv Xianzhi and Consul  Liu Hua, etc.
